Robert Pasternak first gained attention for meticulously rendered paintings and drawings of urban fragments—cracked asphalt, painted road markings, tar repairs, and weathered signage. Isolated from their larger context, these surfaces initially read as abstract compositions. Only with sustained viewing does the subject become clear.
