i have driven as far north

as the road will allow.

or so it seemed.

the map tells 

a different tale

full of little lines

surely leading up

further than i’ve 

been.

i have imagined 

baker lake

more times 

then I care to say.

my mind 

racing through

anguhadluq

and oonark

for a glimpse

of their land.

barren.

white.

wild.

but it’s ruth

annaqtuusi’s

prints and

drawings

with their

vivid colors

a mess of

people

animals

structures

all packed on

the page

that forms most 

of my visions.

not unlike the

particular

dissections

and 

over-head

views 

of 

shuvanai 

ashoona.

in fact,

it would be

difficult 

to find a kinngait

artist 

who has not tried 

to capture

the land around

them.

our show

land + sea

opens a

small window

for those of us

whose dreams

are of 

the north.
