Tuktu, Nanuq, Aiviq: Inuit Visions of the Animal World

Inuit Prints & Drawings Portraying a Vibrant Gathering of the Arctic’s Great Animals

Tuktu, Nanuq, Aiviq – Inuit Visions of the Animal World brings together a powerful selection of prints and drawings from the celebrated Kinngait (Cape Dorset) studios, highlighting the animals that have shaped Inuit life, imagination, and storytelling for generations. From the quiet strength of the caribou to the commanding presence of the polar bear and walrus, these works honour animals not only as subjects, but as partners in survival, identity, and cosmology.

Across bold graphic prints and finely detailed drawings, artists portray the whale’s depth, the wolf’s intelligence, and the enduring relationships that connect people, land, and wildlife in the North. Each piece reflects an artist’s distinct vision—sometimes naturalistic, sometimes symbolic—but always rooted in respect and lived experience.

This exhibition celebrates the creative legacy of Kinngait artists and the community’s world-renowned printmaking tradition. The result is a vibrant gathering of the Arctic’s great animals—portrayed with power, humour, memory, and awe.
