Description
Sharni Pootoogook
(b. 1979)
Sharni Pootoogook is an Inuit artist from Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut, working within one of the most influential artistic families in Inuit art. The daughter of Napachie Pootoogook and granddaughter of pioneering graphic artist Pitseolak Ashoona, Pootoogook grew up surrounded by the drawing and printmaking traditions that have defined Kinngait’s internationally recognized art movement. Her drawings often depict animals, figures, and scenes from northern life rendered with clear line and balanced composition. As part of the younger generation of Kinngait artists, Pootoogook continues a family legacy that has played a central role in the development of contemporary Inuit graphic art.
