Johnny Pootoogook
Johnny Pootoogook (b. 1969) is a contemporary Inuit artist from Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut. Working primarily in drawing and printmaking, his work depicts northern landscapes, animals, and community environments with clarity and restraint. Grounded in observation and place, Pootoogook’s images reflect contemporary life in the North through atmosphere and setting rather than overt narrative. He is the son of acclaimed artist Kananginak Pootoogook and grew up in an environment shaped by drawing and printmaking. His work has been included in Kinngait Studios print collections and is collected internationally.
