Description
Pee Ashevak
(1953–2022)
Pee Ashevak was an Inuit artist from Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut, known for distinctive prints and sculptures featuring birds, spirits, and imaginative transformation figures. The daughter of pioneering artist Kenojuak Ashevak, Ashevak grew up within one of the most influential artistic families in Inuit art and developed a highly recognizable visual language of her own. Her work often combines stylized animals with bold graphic forms and elements of Inuit mythology, resulting in images that are both playful and symbolic. Ashevak contributed to the annual Cape Dorset print collections over several decades, and her work is widely collected for its originality and strong graphic presence within the Kinngait tradition.
