Description
Jonasie Faber
(b. 1944)
Jonasie Faber is a Greenlandic Inuit sculptor born in Qaqortoq, Greenland, whose work blends traditional Arctic themes with a dynamic and highly imaginative sculptural style. After spending his youth in Greenland and Denmark — including time training as a deep-sea navigator — Faber moved to Canada in the 1970s and began carving stone, developing a distinctive body of work inspired by Inuit mythology, Arctic wildlife, and the sea. His sculptures often feature powerful animals, transformation figures, and dramatic narrative scenes carved in soapstone or other stone. Faber’s work has been widely exhibited in Canada, Europe, and the United States, and is included in major public and private collections, including those of the Danish Royal Family. Today he is recognized as an internationally collected Inuit sculptor whose work reflects both Greenlandic heritage and a lifetime of travel and exploration.
