Description
Palaya Qiatsuq
Having learned from his father Lukta, Palaya Qiatsuq began his carving career quite young in 1977. Much like his father, Palaya took to stone with a unique style and vision, and this work is no exception. Standing tall and striding forward, Shaman with Sled Dog requires a second look as hands turn to paws and mouths emerge from hair. The dark polished surface of the stone accentuates the contours and curves of both figures, giving them a dignified character out of the absurdity.
