Description

Luke Anguhadluq

Luke Anguhadluq (1895–1982) was a highly respected Inuit artist from Baker Lake (Qamani’tuaq), Nunavut, and a foundational figure in the development of Inuit drawing and printmaking in the central Arctic. Largely self-taught and drawing directly from lived experience, Anguhadluq developed a distinctive visual language marked by flattened space, direct narrative, and an unembellished clarity of line. His images of life on the land, hunting practices, and traditional knowledge are not stylized for effect, but recorded with authority and precision. A key contributor to the Baker Lake print program, his work is sought after by knowledgeable collectors and is held in major museum collections as a cornerstone of Inuit graphic art.
