Description

Sheojuk Etidlooie

(1929–1999)

Sheojuk Etidlooie was an Inuit artist from Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut, whose drawings contributed to the early development of the Cape Dorset graphic arts movement. Working primarily in drawing, she depicted Arctic animals, hunters, and scenes from life on the land, reflecting the experiences of a generation raised in the camp life of the eastern Arctic. Her work is characterized by clear line and direct storytelling, qualities that defined many of the drawings produced in Kinngait during the formative decades of Inuit printmaking. Etidlooie’s images were translated into prints in the annual Cape Dorset collections, and her work remains part of the early history of Inuit graphic art.
