Description

Elizabeth Kugmucheak Alooq

(1943-)

Kugmoocheak was an Inuit artist from Baker Lake (Qamani’tuaq), Nunavut, active during the early years of the Baker Lake print program in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Working primarily in drawing, Kugmoocheak created images of animals and scenes from life on the land, often emphasizing clarity of form and direct narrative. Her work was translated into prints through the annual Baker Lake collections, contributing to the development of one of the most distinctive regional styles in Inuit graphic art. Today, her prints are appreciated for their strong composition and their place within the formative period of Baker Lake printmaking.
